1. Approach to the Islands

In February 1927, V. C. Scott O’Connor set out on his epic journey to explore and discover the country and the islands which had so burned themselves into his consciousness a quarter of a century before. He took the train to Brindisi on the heel of Italy, arriving on February 19th, 1927. That evening he boarded a steamship that would take him to the Athens port of Piraeus where, on February 21st, he began his island odyessey that would lead to the publication of the book, Isles of the Aegean.
